From tumultuous rehab experiences to facing stigmatization, Baden's functional years eventually gave way to a harrowing descent marked by heroin overdoses and psychosis. DESIGN AND ILLUSTRATION APPROACH
In approaching the visual representation of Baden's impactful life story through animation, I made deliberate design decisions to ensure a sensitive and engaging portrayal. Utilizing animated photographs falling onto a table serves the dual purpose of creating a visual narrative while allowing the audience to focus on Baden, who courageously provided the voiceover for his own story.
The choice of animation in dealing with delicate matters is a strategic one. It strikes a balance between conveying the emotional depth of Baden's journey and maintaining a level of abstraction to avoid overwhelming the audience. By incorporating photographs, I aimed to ground the narrative in reality while using animation to enhance the storytelling experience.
Handling delicate subjects with animation requires a nuanced approach, and my decision to employ a falling photographs motif ensures that the audience can follow the chronological sequence of key moments without being subjected to explicit visuals. This approach adds a layer of empathy to the storytelling, making it more accessible to a wider audience.
Having Baden narrate his own story through the voiceover adds an authentic and human touch to the animation. This approach fosters a deeper connection between the audience and the narrative, allowing for a more profound impact. The combination of carefully chosen visuals, animation, and Baden's personal voiceover creates a compelling and respectful method for sharing his life journey.
In summary, my design decision to use animation with a falling photographs concept, coupled with Baden's own voiceover, showcases a thoughtful and empathetic approach to storytelling. This method not only respects the sensitivity of the content but also ensures a meaningful and engaging experience for the audience, aligning with my commitment to impactful visual communication.
